A weekly(ish) list of things I love and what’s going on with me.
That’s Amanda Palmer (at right), doing her thing at the Neptune in Seattle last Sunday night. Me? I was in the audience. Past bedtime and flying solo, baby.
It felt like when I was sixteen and my best friend would come pick me up in her Chevy Blazer, when leaving the house felt like the greatest escape of all time, like the entire world was ours for the taking (the “taking” usually ended up being going to 7-11 or hanging out at a friend’s house, but still! the possibility!!)
It was good.
Also, it’s funny how something like going to a concert alone is like such a huuuuge deeeal when you are young and single, at least it was for me, I would have never done that. And now? Shit. This woman inspires me, I had the tickets and no babysitter, you better believe I was going to go. If motherhood has done anything for me it has erased any notion of shame I have ever felt in a public setting. I have dragged my toddler screeching out of Target in front of an audience of judgmental shoppers–so omg people might see me alone at a concert and think I am uncool doesn’t even rate anymore. (Also: for the record, I am uncool and I love it. It’s like the best thing ever, I highly recommend it.)
You cannot humiliate yourself more than this from Emma is hilarious and beautiful and now I am going to think about it whenever I am frustrated with Z (or anyone for that matter) and remember the poop thing. Read it.
Emma is also starting a series of video birth stories. If you are pregnant and hungry for positive birth stories (or even negative ones, but told in a non-sensationalized, non-fear-mongering kind of way) than you must follow this series! Emma is such a kind and powerful soul and I’m so excited to see how she presents these sacred stories.
Oh! and I have many thoughts about preparing for natural birth in a hospital setting, and I still haven’t written that post but I will soon. Maybe if/when I tell Emma my birth story…
And finally, I am really having fun with the Love & Greens podcast. Next Monday’s episode will be on eating healthy while traveling. You can subscribe here to make sure you never miss an episode. Or just watch this space! I would love to answer any reader/listener questions, so if you have an idea for a topic please email me or comment here!
