A weekly list of things I love and what’s going on with me.
I am lucky to have the most insightful friends, who are totally wiling to get real about shit. (I guess it helps that it’s the #1 quality I look for in a friend!)
Anyway, one of my dearest friends just had a beautiful baby boy. And she has been basically live-blogging the first few weeks (which I am ridiculously impressed with, since during Z’s first 6 months I couldn’t even string together enough words to form a coherent sentence much less write a blog post!)
Check out Mira’s whole blog, but this post especially got me…
I guess I’m learning what Motherhood is all about, but I hardly know since I could be the only, lonely, neurotic emotional rollercoaster rider of a woman who feels equal parts like a powerhouse and a complete and total failure, every day of this, my new life. I wish I could tell you everything is going perfectly, that I’m a complete earth mother of a nature goddess and that I spend my hours curling my fair baby’s little hairs around my fingers, but I can’t. Instead, I’ll tell you: I have NO IDEA what I’m doing. And it is THE MOST AWESOME thing I have ever done.
Oh you’re so not the only one, sister. Almost two (!) years (!) in and I still feel like that.
Speaking of kickass friends…Emma is as obsessed concerned bonkers interested in her toddler’s eating habits as I am. And after sharing long conversations full of agony and worry, I am happy to say we’ve both gotten to a much better place with it all.
She’s written a great post about toddler eating habits, which includes (non-vegan, but still healthy whole foods) sample menus. I am totally going to steal some ideas!
And now for some women who aren’t my friends in real life, but oh man do I wish they were…Ain’t No Mom Jeans.
This blog has been a serious kick in my (bootcut) pants… since at almost two years postpartum it’s way past time for me to get interested in my wardrobe again. Not that I ever looked very put-together even before having a baby, but I have definitely been feeling more motivated lately to figure out my personal style. This site actually makes it sound do-able and fun.
Not to mention, they totally have my number…
The problem? Ignoring trends year after year after year is exactly how you wake up one morning, 20 years later, with a permed mullet and legwarmers wondering why everyone else looks so different.
Yeah, that’s the train I’m on.
Start with the awesomely informative and detailed New Style Rules for Moms (Part one, two, three)
And finally, I am ridiculously excited to have released my first podcast this week. It’s all about my top two secrets for making deep and lasting changes to your diet. Especially if you are starting out as a bread-and-cheese-atarian, like I was.
Take a listen and let me know what you think! And please share it with anyone you think might need it!

Eileen – Thanks for the love!!! And I’m a fan of what’cha got goin’ on over here…I just subscribed!! While we’re not vegetarians, we ARE totally committed to eating less meat and dairy….a lot less. I’m always looking for more heathy eating inspiration, so thank you!!
But I have a bone to pick with you: How could you make a list of the top 5 recipes every vegan should know and NOT include chocolate cake????
I have one that’s to die for. And can be enhanced in several subtle ways for fun (think swapping out the water for coffee). Interested?
Whhaaaaaaa!!!!! Shana that’s my brain *exploding* with excitement at your comment–I have been SERIOUSLY blog-stalking you ladies!
And you’re right, I have UTTERLY FAILED at my list of recipes! I need that chocolate cake recipe STAT!! Sounds delicious
Also: I have to ask, are you a Virgo? because your writing about style is so ORGANIZED and comprehensive it totally speaks to the virgo in me
This virgo would like to say Y A M N O O D L E S. How could I possibly not have thought of that myself? Thank you Emma via Eileen.
I know, right? I am so getting on those! Also, in my head you guys already know each other, since you are both the awesomest
