P.S. I'm comforted by your terrible meditation skills (mine are terrible too)! ;) Thanks so much for sharing this. And I agree: it's worth it. Oy vey.

Love that you include your dog in this, by the way. Mine, Naomi, is always with me, too :)

Loved this! My yoga practice is like your mediation. Most of the poses and flows are riddled with mental chatter however, like you I think of it as a practice and sometimes at the end I sit and a moment of deep calm and fullness occurs. That moment is worth all the practice! I enjoy your style of writing and have just entered the blogging world. It's nice to have some inspiring mentors to track! Susan

You mean having a meditation practice means you are supposed to practice it like practicing the piano? Terrific blow by blow here. Hmmm. :)

Perfectionism (and fear) is the main thing that stands in my way of meditation. I can't meditate until I am good at it. How will I get good at it until I PRACTICE? Great article and tweeted. PJ Harris, LMP

Such an honest post, it brought little tears of relief to my eyes! I still feel that meditation is down there with flossing my teeth, so plain English inspiration (such as this article) helps a lot.

Thanks :)

I love this description of your monkey mind, all the more because you express how essential meditation has become to your life. I think most of us follow the same stages you do, the early delightful plunge -- what I call the honeymoon phase -- and then the stage where meditation feels like one more laborious obligation. Sadly most people stop there, they don't return to discover the delicious bubble bath practice. (How I love your description!)

To find that requires you to let go of judgments - this was a good practice, I must be doing this wrong, this is boring, today I'm in bliss - and accept that practice is simply that, *practice.* It's all good.
